Which local suppliers does The Weidehoeve work with?
We try to source as many products as possible from local suppliers. As a sustainable event venue, we strive to reduce the environmental impact of transporting our products. For example, our loaves, rolls and cakes all come from the local baker. We are proud to announce that we work in partnership with Broodhuys the Beerse Bakker for this. We also work with a local butcher, TDH Vlees. A reliable partner who ensures quality and takes dietary requirements and delivery seriously. We source our fresh eggs for our delicious egg salad from the egg farmer further down the street.
When it comes to speciality beers, we naturally also look to our beautiful local area, where we find the superb beers from La Trappe and the village brewery The Roos.
And that’s just one of the many ways we source local produce!
What is The Weidehoeve doing to promote biodiversity?
Well, we think that’s a brilliant question! As we’re literally a stone’s throw away from the ‘t Moergestels Broek nature reserve, nature is always close by here. We’ve designed our grounds so that plants, insects and animals have plenty of space to make this their home. For example, we have various nesting boxes on the site, as well as natural shelters such as piles of branches, copses and so on, where animals can hide. We’ve even thought of the smallest details, such as raising the netting on the paintball field 10 cm off the ground so that hares, field mice and even small roe deer can move freely across the site.
Guus is also keen to tell you about the wadis on our site! A wadi is a sunken, water-permeable area that collects rainwater, stores it temporarily and allows it to slowly seep into the ground, thereby reducing flooding and promoting climate adaptation. Furthermore, a wadi attracts precisely those plants and animals that struggle to find a place in ordinary gardens. Native wadi plants such as greater cattail and cuckoo flower are a magnet for butterflies, bees and hoverflies. Birds, too, come here to drink, bathe and take shelter. With our wadis, we are therefore adding complete, small habitats to our grounds. This ensures our grounds remain a home for everyone!
Is The Weidehoeve energy-efficient?
Of course! We haven’t installed solar panels on our beautiful farmhouses, but we have on all our other roofs! With this powerful network of solar panels and green energy from our energy supplier, we aim to minimise our impact on our beautiful planet. That’s how we operate in a carbon-neutral way!
We also save energy by not leaving the lights on everywhere as a matter of course. When there’s no one around, the lights simply stay off. That’s how simple sustainable working can be😉.
